Along with the improvement of dairy farms’ efficiency, more and more people payattention to fostering calves. In the process of rearing calves, the milk temperature andfeeding amounts are the two key factors that determine the healthy growth of calves. Inorder to solve the control problem of feeding temperature and the amount of milk, designa set of feeding control system that is suitable for calves’ physiological characteristics.Under the control of the host computer, the system controls feeding of calvesautomatically. It can not only changes the way of the calves breeding, and conducive tolarge-scale feeding calves, reduce production cost, speed up the cattle breeding, topromote China’s dairy industry scale, intensive and standardized development has anpromoting effect. Mainly done the following work for the design of the system:Firstly, comprehensive analysis of the development status of calves automaticfeeding technology and equipment, to determine the basic needs of calves fed automaticcontrol system. According to analysis studies to the overall system design process, theoverall program of the calves fed automatic control system is determined, and from bothhardware and software are designed and implemented.Secondly, the hardware of control system is designed for the feeding calves.Hardware system consists of the host computer, the slave computer and serialcommunication line. Host computer was platform of information management provideddate exhibition, storage and management. The salve computer was made up of RF readermodule, information acquisition module and control module based on STC89C52MCU.RF reader module was built by MF RC522high frequency reader was used to read theinformation of ear tag and identify the calf ID. Information acquisition module took thecharge of information acquisition such as number of ear tag, weight, the temperature ofthe milk and the level height of the milk. Control module is mainly realized by MCUdriving the relay to implement the control of the valve, heater etc, so as to realize theautomation management of calf nursing process. Communication lines using master-slavemode multi-machine communications, PC serial interface standard through RS232/485converter circuit will be converted to RS-485standard level and communicate with thelower single-chip; the lower single-chip’ TTL level will be converted to RS-485standardlevel through MAX485chip.Finally, the hardware of control system is designed for the feeding calves. Software implemented the function of hardware acquisition developed by Keil uVision2. The softdesign of lower computer uses C language, and it is compatible to various characters ofhigh-level programming language. The software is written in C language, which greatlyshorten the development cycle and improve the readability of lower computer software.Then the system is easy to be improved and extended, and it has a good practicability.
