We use full vector finite element method to study characteristics and applications of hybrid photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) theoretically. Geometry structure’s effects on characteristics of hybrid PCFS and the chromatic dispersion compensation property of a PCF is carefully studied.The main contents of this paper are:1. The transmission characteristics of total internal reflection PCF (TIR-PCF) and band gap PCF (BG-PCF) are studied. The effective mode indices of fundamental mode in TIR-PCF are changes continuously with different wavelengths. The effective mode indices with different wavelengths in BG-PCF change smoothly in the band gap range while change strongly on the edge band gap.2. The effects of geometry structure parameters such as diameter of core hole, diameter of cladding air holes and the distance between cladding holes on the performances of hybrid guiding photonic crystal fibers are carefully studied. The total internal reflection guidance and band gap guidance both affects the transmission characteristics of hybrid guiding PCFs. The total internal reflection guidance influence the overall trend of the fundamental mode’s effective indices curve while the band gap guidance determines the positions of extremely high value and extremely low value of the fibers chromatic dispersion curve.3. We proposed a hybrid structure dual-concentric-core dispersion compensation photonic crystal fiber. The fiber’s dispersion compensation property is carefully studied and optimized. With optimization, the dispersion compensation fiber attained a chromatic dispersion coefficient about-41800ps/km/nm at wavelength around1.55μm... |
