Laying hen industry is one of main pillars of Chinese poultry, and the number oflaying hens raised in China has been the first in the world for29consecutive years since1985, which is also a big industry in Chinese villages and even a pillar industry in someregions. Compared with the vast scale of laying hen farming and egg product sales, thedevelopment of Chinese laying hen industry’s management system is unable to keep pacewith the development of industry. Today’s society has been in the information age, and thecombination of information economics and traditional industries is the big tide of eradevelopment. Therefore, studying the information management and scale farming of layinghen industry and using visual and information-based methods to regulate and manage theinformation of laying hen industry is of great significance to increasing the income oflaying hen farmers, adjusting the structure of laying hen industry and promoting thedevelopment of livestock and poultry industry.The papers carries out a research on some crucial issues such as the informationmanagement and moderate scale of laying hen industry based on GIS, and takes Hebeiprovince for example to set up an information management and planning system for layinghen industry based on GIS. The system realizes the timely collection, report, storage,analysis and visual management of information in the laying hen industry of Hebeiprovince, and provides the relevant government departments with the support of aiddecision making for the daily management of local laying hen industry and the rationaldistribution of laying hen industry chain, which is of great importance in realizing thesustainable, healthy and safe development of laying hen industry.The main tasks in this paper are shown as follows:1. Collect the Data about the Information Management of Livestock and PoultryIndustryMain producing and farming areas of laying eggs in Hebei province are investigated,including Gaocheng, Xinji, Yongnian and other regions,1555farms of laying hens withdifferent sizes and829other farms of livestock and poultry are visited, and the geographiclocation and attribute information of those farms are collected; the paper studies theinfluence factors of moderate scale in the laying hen industry, integrates the suggestions of experts in laying hen farming and practical situation, chooses the output of main products,the output value of products, the cost of production, the net profit, the amount ofconcentrated feed, the expenses of baby chicken, the output of chicken manure and themortality and elimination rate as the relevant indicators of moderation scale, and collectsrelated data.2.Design a Spatial DatabaseThe databases of laying hen industry and its relevant industries is designed and built.In consideration that the farms of other domestic animals have some important influenceson the management of laying hen farms, the relevant data based on the farms of16kinds ofdomestic animals are organized and sorted out, including pig farms, cattle farms, goatfarms and other farms, and a spatial database and an attribute database are built, tointuitively show the distribution of laying hen farms and other farms in a visual manner.3.Build a Decision Model for the Moderate Scale of Laying Hen IndustryA multi-objective and simplified model of moderate farming scale for the laying henindustry is built through combining the grey situation decision theory, and the survey databased on the laying hen farmers in Hebei province are used to verify the reliability andpracticability of that model.4.Set up a Management and Planning System Based on GISThe system framework is built, function modules are divided, relevant technologiesare realized, and related models are integrated. The component-based developmenttechnology of MapX and the development technology of Visual C++are used to realizefive function modules including map operation, information management of hen farm,query statistics, moderate scale decision as well as system maintenance and help, tointegrate the moderate scale model of hen farm into the management system of laying hens,develop the information management and planning system of laying hen industry, andrealize the management and planning for laying hen farmers and other relevant industries.
