In recent years, compared with the cable networks and telecommunication networks, power line communication (PLC) network has developed rapidly because of its advantages. The power line communication system is built on the basis of power line transmission networks, the communication can be achieved between the internal nodes of PLC network, or between a node of PLC network and a node of other communication network by transferring high-frequency signal with information on the power line. At the destination, the signal is separated by dedicated modem of power line network and transmitted to the terminal device. PLC has many advantages, such as high data transfer rate, high bandwidth efficiency, strong anti-interference ability and low cost by using OFDM, etc... However, the power line communication has certain limitations due to its nature. The disadvantages include signal attenuation, the small impedance of power line, extremely complex noises, and the distance of data transmission is limited if there is no relay node. In order to increase the data transmission range of power line network and improve the stability and reliability of communication, existing physical layer technology is not enough to meet the practical needs of power line communication. Thus, it has important practical value to do research on resource management mechanisms by improving the network capacity and reducing transmission delay in power line communication network. This thesis focuses on the resource management based on MAC layer in power line communication networks. The main research work and innovations are shown as follows:Firstly, based on the analysis of existing resource allocation mechanisms of power line communication system, a protocol called PRMA (Packet Reservation Multiple Access) is proposed, which combines resource reservation and resource competition. The user access process of power line network, the frame structure for information exchange, the reliable data transmission from end to end are designed. Secondly, based on the investigation of mechanisms for multi-hop relay power line communication network, an algorithm of spatial reuse called SRARN (Spatial Reuse Algorithm of Relay Network) is presented, and it can improve the overall network capacity, the stability and reliability of the system effectively. Finally, the performances of proposed PRMA mechanism and SRARN algorithm are verified by system-level simulation.
