Microwave photonics is an interdisciplinary subject which combines the preponderance of Microwave Science and Photonics. Microwave photonics technology has some remarkable advantages, such as low loss, high-bandwidth, light weight, small size, anti-electromagnetic interference and strong broadband signal processing capability. Microwave photonic technology can process wideband signals directly in the detection of microwave signals, which reduce the requirement of bandwidth and loss in microwave processing. And it can maximize overcome the technical bottleneck of traditional electrical microwave detection. This paper intensively investigated the applications demand of microwave signal receiving and military defense, and mainly focused on the detection technology research of pseudo-millimeter-wave ultra-wideband (PMM-UWB) signals. PMM-UWB have the characteristics of narrow pulse width, low signal strength, which make it not easy to be detected. To deal with such problem, we proposed optics assisted envelope detection technology of PMM-UWB which combining the advantages of microwave photonics technology. This technology realize the detection and receive of PMM-UWB signal successfully. The main contents of this paper are as follows.Firstly, theoretical analysis and mathematical derivation of lithium niobate modulator for microwave photonic technologies, and to establish the corresponding mathematical transmission model.Secondly, proposing optics assisted envelope detection scheme of PMM-UWB employing phase/intensity modulation. Theoretical derivation the system configuration based on phase/intensity modulator, respectively. Analyzing the different effects of phase modulator and intensity modulator on the output envelope signal.Thirdly, proposing two fiber transmission schemes of PMM-UWB signals employing photonic assisted envelope detection technology. Based on the method of mathematical derivation and numerical simulation, comparing the different of two schemes. Researching the photonic assisted envelope detection unit whether or not it can alleviate the effects of fiber dispersion.Fourthly, based on the advantages of microwave photonic technology, such as high bandwidth, low loss, anti-electromagnetic interference, proposing microwave frequency measurement scheme using phase modulator and dispersion fiber. Theoretical derivation and building a system simulation model to study the frequency measurement method of microwave signal.
