Current WLAN has problems such as difficult network selection and complex authentication. In order to solve these problems, Wi-Fi Alliance proposed the next generation WLAN, namely HS2.0. HS2.0has functions of automatic authentication, simple connectivity with no user intervention and seamless handover. It performs well in user roaming and security aspect. However, HS2.0has the problem of ANQP signaling redundancy in network discovery and selection. Existing ANQP signaling redundancy solution occupies in the fields of HESSID and PAME-BI in IEEE802.11standard, which would eliminate the original content of the fields. In addition, the address query mechanism of authentication of HS2.0is indiscreet and inefficient, yet WLAN industry has not proposed an efficient mechanism to solve these problems. Therefore, these two aspects still needs further research. To address the above issues, this paper studies the next generation WLAN roaming technology, and put forward schemes to improve the efficiency of the next generation WLAN roaming mechanism. The main achievements of this paper include the roaming network access optimization and roaming forwarding query system of next generation WLAN implementation. The efficient romaing network access optimization appends an ANQP ID in HS2.0Indication element, and integrates the WLAN cloud management platform with smart AP architecture. It implements the centralized management and control of next generation WLAN, and user terminal can decide which AP to connect in the beginning of network discovery and selection. This solution can improve the network ANQP allocative efficiency, reduce the signaling interaction, and achieve the purpose of efficient network access. The roaming forwarding query system of next generation WLAN bases on BIND9codes, which modifies the part of system management, interface design and some other details. The system prototype has been implemented. Functional test in LAN environment has proved that the system achieves the function of address query, automatic update and load balancing. The roaming forwarding query system provides scientific reference to efficient roaming of next generation WLAN to a certain extent.
