Nowadays, we are in an era of information. With the rapid development of Internet technology, website as the main carrier of network resource also develops extremely rapidly. There are more and more personal websites, enterprise websites and community websites, the total of websites is in explosive growth around the world. And the competitive of website is also increasingly fierce. Just under such a background, in order to facilitate users to access website and administrators to manage the website, the website monitoring is more and more important in site management.As colleges play a role of the forefront of the Internet applications and research, the campus website is an important platform for school to show image and internal learning. Because the source is very important for the user in college, the information security is particularly important. However, the sites at all levels are often located in different college rooms, laboratories, most of them aren’t under unified management by special administrators. So the failure can’t be found in time. According to the defects, the paper designed a web site monitoring system especially for use in colleges. The system has the functions of monitoring website status, web server performance, web security testing and others, it is convenient for user and administrator.Based on the deep research of the website monitoring technology, this paper designed a website monitoring system based on Linux environment, and achieved its main function of each module. The website monitoring system is mainly divided into three parts:database server, monitoring server, and Web server. And the background monitoring server mainly includes seven modules:campus network status monitoring, website accessibility monitoring, website content monitoring, campus live video monitoring, web server performance monitoring, failure alarm, and website safety inspection. Monitoring program extracts monitoring targets form the database, and updates the database in real time. Finally, the system shows the information of monitoring to users by Web server.
