The increasing requirements of network services and the continuous development ofcommunication network technologies promote the transition of mobile communicationnetworks from2G to3G, and even to4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) greatly, and make thenetwork services become more diverse and complex. Network traffic measurement andprotocol identification play an important role for the guaranteed quality of service (QoS) andnetworks operation optimization. Therefore, the design and implementation of a high-speedLTE network traffic measurement instrument based on the network flow engine card are ofgreat practical value.Supported by the National High-Tech Development Project (863project), the test andsimulation of next generation converged satellite and terrestrial broadband communicationnetworks, this dissertation has performed the design and implementation of a high-speedtraffic measurement instrument, which is used in LTE networks and based on NFE3240network flow engine card. Firstly, this dissertation introduces the methods of traffic collection,the principles of packet analysis, and puts emphasis on the key techniques of protocolsidentification. Secondly, based on the functions of network traffic measurement instrument tobe studied, it addresses the choice of the hardware and software development platform to beused, and completes the whole implementation scheme of the network traffic measurementinstrument. The developed instrument software can be divided into two modules of trafficcapture and data analysis. We have accomplished its all software sub-modules includinginitialization, packet capture, packet analysis, protocol identification and results statistics.Moreover, a hybrid engine measurement scheme is proposed by using the mask codesclassification in data analysis module. Finally, the test results of the developed measurementinstrument indicated the correctness of its software design and implementation, and theapplication of the measurement instrument in LTE networks is also presented.
