In recent years, optical fiber communication has been applied widely in our country, but it’s difficult to estimate fault point’s location of the communication optical cable, so this topic design a method about estimate fault point’s location which based on Geographical Information System, GIS. GIS is an information system to acquire, store, manage, describe and analyze the concerned spatial and geographical data of the global surface. GIS is based on geographical and spatial database and supported by computer hardware and software context, GIS implements to acquire, manage, operate, analyze, simulate and display spatial data. It provides an effective platform for communications information management.First of all, we analyzed and researched the demand about positioning accurate of communication optical cable fault, and then combining with the GIS and Optical Time Domain Reflectometer,OTDR, make the map digitization, then realized the unity of the spatial data and attribute data storage, management,alarm and real-time display on GIS; adopt the method of batch input data to solve the problem of the automatic update; The introduction of wavelet transform to the OTDR curve,it can fault location rapidly and accurately, concrete is adopted the methods about threshold of wavelet domain coefficients combined signal denoising and enhancement, analysis points out the curve of the event in the end. Finally on the basis of the optic cable business requirements, designed a communication optical cable fault location system which is fault location for the main.
