In recent years, with the rapid development of computing technology and Internet technology,the trend of researches based on the network is becoming more and more obviously, large-scalecomputing and data-intensive applications as the representative of the photonic grid technology hasbeen widespread around the world. Photonic grid technology combined the advantages of opticalnetwork and grid technology, and brings new development and application to the traditional gridtechnology, has a wider application prospect and potential economic benefits.This paper is based on the theory of grid, and focusing on “performance monitoring of opticalnetwork for grid applications”. Considering in the photonic grid environment, how to allocate andtransfer optical network source according to the need for grid application, then matching alight-path with better transmission quality, to provide high-quality grid data transmission services.Also give some attention to its physical impairments and modeling in optical network.This paper introduces the development and current status of the photonic grid, also someproblems. Focusing on the problem of the traditional grid monitoring component which lacks ofinformation on the monitoring of optical network resources, this paper tries to put forward a kind ofmonitoring service to the photonic grid application, which combines the OPM with MDSmonitoring component of grid middleware in GT Toolkit. Using OPM to expand the existing MDSmonitoring functions, making the MDS monitoring grid resources and can also measure the opticalnetwork resource, such as bandwidth and wavelength. And these optical network resources likeother grid resources can be released to the GRAM, through the GRAM for real-time processing andanalysis of the monitoring data, to achieve a dynamic, flexible, real-time optical network resourcesfor matching grid resources to meet the purpose of the optical channel transmission qualityrequirements, so as to ensure the real-time transmission of mass data grid service.Aiming at the problem of optical network physical impairments, this paper carried out a simpleclassification and analysis to it, then put forward a optical network physical impairments modelconsidering of multiple physical impairments, to directly reflect the degree of light-path affected bythe physical impairments, and thus to avoid these transmission impairments effectively in practice,and provide users with better quality of the optical channel.
