The focus of this thesis is on the implementation of the6LoWPAN(IPv6over Low PowerWireless Personal Area Networks) based cold chain monitoring system.6LoWPAN WSN(WirelessSensor Network) is a typical ALL-IP network. Compared to traditional WSN, the key feature of the6LoWPAN-WSN is that all sensor nodes in the6LoWPAN-WSN are addressed by their globalunique IPv6addresses. The unification of the addressing standard in WSN ensures the seamlessinterconnectivity between the WSN and the Internet, which is especially suitable for the applicationin cold chain monitoring due to its demand for multiple domain network and real-time ability. However, The6LoWPAN is not yet so mature. Many of the Supporting standards for6LoWPANare still at the drawing-board stage, with few prototype systems at home or abroad. Therefore, besides the realization of the cold chain monitoring, the main concern here is the construction of the6LoWPAN-WSN network and the realization of some key techniques in the6LoWPAN stackespecially for that of the6LoWPAN-NDP(6LoWPAN-Neighbor Discovery Protocol). After analyzing traditional cold chain monitoring system and the architecture of WSN, thisthesis proposes a6LoWPAN-WSN network model appropriate for cold chain monitoring system. There are three important entities for the model, including sensor nodes, border routers andmonitoring hosts. All the entities are seamlessly connected to each other using end-to-endconnection scheme. The iSense-sky430development board and PC are chosen as hardware host forthe monitoring prototype system. For the software development, attention is paid to three aspects. The first and second aspects are the realization of the6LoWPAN protocol and6LoWPAN-NDP inthe border router while the third one is the realization of the cold chain monitoring application inthe monitoring host. All the three aspects are based on Linux operating system in both its user modeand kernel mode. The benchmark test shows that the prototype system which is designed in thisthesis is up to standard with6LoWPAN and is capable of fulfilling various assigned monitoringtasks. Its efficiency and compatibility makes it available in some real applications.
