China News Award Winning Factors

China News Award is the highest award of Chinese media, and it is also the baton of thedevelopment of socialist journalism.There is no more than300pieces of works annual session.To some extent,these works have represented the development of journalism in China thiscurrent year and guided the development direction of Chinese journalism.The news value theory is the theoretical basis in this paper focusing on the followingquestions: What factors have affected the selection of China News Award? Have ChineseNews Award affected by other non-newsworthy factors during the selection process? Whatdefects have the Chinese News Award had during the development? What should ChineseNews Award do to strive to improve and mature?These issues are crucial for correct understanding Chinese News Award. This study hasselected some samples to do content analysis including comparative analysis and quantitativeanalysis,using detailed data to answer these questions.The samples of comparative analysiscomposed of two parts:277pieces of news works winning the Chinese News Award and100pieces of news works named the "top ten news" selected by Xinhua News Agency.Theseworks are mainly compared from the content,theme,tendency and so on.These are related tothe content of news works. The samples of Quantitative analysis is424pieces of news workswinning the Chinese news award.These works are mainly distinguished from some aspectsuch as the media quality,media level, city level and so on.Two aspects of data analysis showed that Chinese News Award has gone through23years,now she is keeping pace with the times to go to improve and mature,but there are someflaws and blemishes still.1.Chinese News Award have some imbalance appearance inSelection process:content distribution,located city distribution,media level,report tendencyetc.Chinese News Award has strictly formulated the number of works participating theselection and the selection rules are too rigid.On the other hand, the number of winning onesis too much and this would drive down the value of this works.If this phenomenon is allowedlong-term existence,the development of Chinese journalism will certainly be affected.Therefore, Chinese News Award should make timely improvements.Based on thereference principles and standards of Pulitzer Prize awards, this paper haved put forwardsome opinions and suggestions.1.Chinese News Award should be appropriate to reduce theamount of the winning works to ensure the quality of the winning entries.2.Chinese NewsAward should pay more attention to the news value of news work and try to eliminateinterference of other non-newsworthy factors.3.Chinese News Award should pay attention tothe supervision by public opinion of news works to increase the proportion of negative reportin the award-winning.4.China should decrease the news awards event to ensure the authorityof the Chinese News Award.Hoping to help reform China News Award.
