With the increasing of the customer’s requirement on digital business, optical accesstechnology has rapidly developed in recent years, and the traditional access networkbased on copper wire is gradually replaced by optical access network. Although opticalaccess network has the advantages of large capacity, wide bandwidth and low loss etc, italso faces great challenge in operation and maintenance phase while it is deployedwidely. There are many passive nodes in optical access network, and any failure of themwill affect the normal transmission of business. A quick failure location and promptrepair is one of the problems that telecom operator mostly concerned, and accuratepositioning of the failure is an issue to recover the network promptly and to improve theeffect of operation and maintenance and service quality.On analysis of the requirement of optical access network operation and maintenancetechnology, the research group I belonged to has accomplished the realization oflocating failure position promptly and accurately in optical access network, using opticalswitch module management system which cooperated with OTDR technology. The wayof optical switch module management system works as follows: supervisory signal iscoupled with business signal through the channel switchover controlled by opticalswitch module management system, and a route measurement would be taken whilemixed-up signal is injected into optical distribution network.Combined with the application context and specific function of optical switchmodule management system, the thesis introduces the overall design of the system thatsupports configuration function, switching function and upgrade management functionof optical switching module, and the design of hardware and software design hascompleted in the meanwhile. The software design of optical switch module managementsystem is highlighted, including the divide of function module, the study of HDLCprotocol and TL1protocol, the design of communication protocol among eachsub-module, the function completion of each sub-module, and a detail functional test ismade for the system, the result shows that the system is capable of realizing switch andsupervisory functions, which could complete positioning failure in optical linkage. Moreover, flexible configuration and update function has been realized to adjust productupdating in diverse requirement.
