The wireless sensor network (WSN) plays an important role in the resesarch on the sensing layer of internet of things (IoT). Since the sensing layer of IoT comprises a large number of sensor nodes and the energy of these nodes is limited, the energy-efficient routing algorithms are desired and have been researched. Utilizing the characteristics of WSN, we cluster the network nodes and then apply clustering WSN routing algorithms. Existing results show that clustering WSN routing algorithms are more energy efficient than traditional routing algorithms, and high-energy heterogeneous nodes in WSN can improve the network performance.In this thesis, clustering routing algorithms of the heterogeneous WSN were studied. The main contribution includes:1. The basic principles of clustering routing algorithms were analyzed in the sensor network. The goal is to address the problem that arises from the disadvantages of LEACH and DEEC routing algorithms, and then a new design for clustering routing algorithms are proposed in the heterogeneous WSN.2. An efficient heterogeneous WSN clustering routing algorithm, DEEC-adv, was proposed. It applied the cluster-heads election strategy according to relative residual energy and combined hybrid routing algorithms of single and multiple hops. The proposed algorithm can control energy consumption problem of the nodes near the border and make the network select cluster head nodes effectively.3. We study the influence of cluster-heads selection strategy and data transmission strategy in DEEC-adv on the network lifetime, energy consumption, and data transmission. Simulations are conducted using MATLAB. The simulation results showed that the DEEC-adv algorithm can effectively increase the network life cycle and the energy utilization for the heterogeneous WSN. 4. A simulation platform based on NS2was built. Under the protocol DEEC-adv and DEEC, the performance including energy consumption, the network lifetime, and the amount of transmission data was investigated. Simulation results showed that the DEEC-adv protocol improves over DEEC, verifying the value of the proposed theory. Finally, this thesis gives future research directions based on the simulation results.
