Infrared imaging technology has been more and more widely used in the field of scientific research and military with its unique advantages, and many weapons based on infrared imaging system are gradually developed. During the process of the development of the infrared imaging systems, a lot of infrared images are needed as the input for evaluation and testing. However, infrared images obtained by filming have significant limitations. Infrared simulation technology solves this problem very well. The infrared simulation in this paper is based on the real images. In the process of infrared simulation, people care more about artificial target or military architecture. It is important to simulate realistic scene containing high value targets or architecture. The area around the target or the building has a large impact on the extraction processing, especially the shaded area generated by blocking out the sun’s light. The input images of the infrared simulation process need to remove the shadow areas as the original image to simulate the infrared scene under other weather and time. In the process of simulation, there is need to add the shadow region to achieve the result closed to the real infrared scene. Thus, people cannot look down upon the shadow effect in the process of infrared simulation.This paper adopts two methods to realize the simulation of infrared building shadow. The first one is based on geometric method. This method uses plane projection as the basic theory. Firstly, build shadow model of vertical and inclined plane. Then construct the solving model of the shades area based on vertical and inclined plane shadow model. The second method is based on ray tracing. Track the light launched by a pixel along the direction of the incoming light, judge the fellowship with the3D scene to determine the shadow area. Finally, take measures to correct the gray value. Both methods are implemented in Visual Studio2008developing platform using C/C++programming language.After the algorithm design and software implementation, compare the simulation results with filming and Vega simulation outcome.
