With the development of technology, mobile devices are widely used in the field ofmilitary and civilian. Camera, which is hand-held or mounted on platforms that can hardlykeep stable, improves the way we work, but it also brings some new problems. Theundesired motion usually makes the output image sequences shaky and difficult to process.Digital image stabilization is a method that can stabilize image sequences. In order to solvethe problems, the digital image stabilization system aided by binocular ranging is proposed.Motion estimation and compensation is the core of digital image stabilization. Themajor problem of traditional image stabilization systems using complex algorithms toestimate the image motion vector is the low image processing rate. To improve theprocessing rate, the high-precision attitude sensor is used to estimate image motion. Andthe image motion is compensated by the method of affine transform. The following aspectshave been mainly introduced.First, according to the imaging model of camera, combining with the relationshipamong the world coordinate, camera coordinate and image coordinate, the relationshipamong the camera’s movement in space, the corresponding object’s pixel movement inimage and the distance of object is obtained.Second, binocular vision system is designed to measure the distance of objects. Thecalibration toolbox for MATLAB is used to calculate the intrinsic and extrinsic cameraparameters. The algorithm based on SURF is used to detect and describe the interest points.Then, the system matchs the interest points and eliminates the wrong matches to computethe parallax of spatial points. The distance information can be got by the parallax of interestpoints and camera parameters.Finally, software design is accomplished. The program of image motion eatimation andmotion compensation is prepared.Experiments show that the error of binocular vision system within ranging scope1m~5m is less than2%, it can meet the needs of the digital image stabilization system. Thedigital image stabilization system aided by binocular ranging can process image sequencescaptured from different distance at the rate of14frames per second. It can meet therequirements of most circumstances.
