Cloud storage provides enormously scalable storage at low cost, but data privacy is a major concern preventing users from storing files on the cloud. One way of enhancing privacy is to encrypt the files before storing them and decrypt the files after downloading them. However, the large overhead of encryption operation on mobile devices with limited band-width and processing power makes the encrypted search over mobile cloud very challenging. In this paper, we propose TEES (Traffic and Energy saving Encrypted Search), a bandwidth and energy efficient search archi-tecture over encrypted mobile cloud data. The proposed architecture of-floads the computation from mobile devices to the cloud, and optimize the communication between the mobile clients and the cloud. We demonstrate that the data privacy does not degrade when the performance enhancement measures are applied. Our experiments show that TEES reduces the com-putation time by23%to46%and cut the energy consumption by35%to55%per file retrieval, meanwhile the network traffic during the retrievals are also reduced.
