Virtual simulation is a very popular topic in the field of computer animation. Thetechnology of virtual simulation has been widely used in many areas, such as digitalcity, venue simulation, walkthrough, interior design and so on. In the virtual world,the behavior modeling and simulating technology for virtual crowds simulates theperception, planning, behavior and cognitive ability of human beings and aims toreflect the characteristics of crowds realistically. Much work has been done tosimulate the large crowd. However, the simulation efficiency is not high. Agent-basedmethod is based on rules which were defined by person. This method has limitation.So the storyboard and texture synthesis algorithm are used in this paper. With thesehigh efficiency results can be gotten finally. The data source is coming from the realcrowd in video.The main contents of the paper are as follows:First of all, the data derives from video which contains small scale crowd. Get theframes from video and then extract the position information, path information, statusinformation to guide the crowd moving.Second, design the storyboard for simulation. Information extracted from video isintegrated into the storyboard. This information includes the person’s position, path,direction, status and so on. In this paper, we use a shape to represent a person. Thecolor, pixels positions, shape direction can represent the3D information. This canbuild the model of real crowd information using mathematical description.Third, considering the scale of the crowd should be enlarged, the path-basedtexture synthesis algorithm was used. We can not only enlarge the scale of the crowdbut also use the algorithm to deal with some geometric details which can hardly berealized by the traditional mathematical model or empirical model.Last, the3D information is extracted from the large scale storyboard and savedinto data file. In the platform of Virtools, the person’ data is used. With the simplecollision avoidance, the finally animation has a high reality with large scale.
