Tea sorter system is a high-tech equipment, which is based on photoelectric technologyand integrated with optics, mechanology, electricity and pneumatics. There has been a largegap in the color sorter technology between home and abroad, which leads to a heavilydependence on the imported equipment.So with the development and widely use of a new typeof intelligent tea color machine system, it would bring huge economic and social benefits.The purpose of this paper is to develop a new type of intelligent tea sorter control system,which combines signal acquisition and processment with intelligent recognition algorithm torealize the quick and efficient separation of raw tea material.After the research on the development of color machine at home and abroad, this paperanalyzed the weakness and deficiency of domestic color sorter system at first.Then the workingprinciple and basic structure of the tea sorter control system was introduced, and the mainresearch content of this article was put forward.In hardware design, the principle of CCD was introduced, and the camera and the typeselection was analysed. In order to cooperate with Spyder3series color linear CCD camerafrom DALSA Canada, the Cyclone III series FPGA and on STC microcontroller based imagesignal processing board was designed. Then a set of perfectly functional tea sorter controlsystem hardware platform was completed. In order to get the final result, the image wasprocessed through morphological algorithm and the analysis of connected domainidentification.After the completion of the algorithm design, the programs of FPGA were developedwith Quartus II, which was Altera Company’s FPGA soft development environment. At thesame time the correctness of the program function was verified by using the Modelsimsimulation software for simulation.Through the system debugging and experiments, the correctness of the image recognitionalgorithm in this paper have been eventually verified, and the performance of our intelligenttea color sorter has been achieved as expected.
