With the rise and development of cloud computing and mobile Internettechnology, and the growth rate of new information every day is getting faster andfaster, people is eager for storage systems which can provide high-capacityinformation storage. Meanwhile, as more and more confidential information andpersonal privacy are stored in network storage systems, people have higherrequirements for the safety and reliability of storage systems. However, the traditionalsystems whose interfaces are block-based or file-based are difficult to meet the newneeds. Fortunately, Object-based storage systems come into being and can effectivelymeet current storage requirements which have the advantages of both block-basedstorage system and file-based storage system.“Object” is the core concept of an object-based storage system, which consists offile data and physical layer metadata.“Object” is self-descriptive and object-basedinterface which can provide rich semantic information, makes automation andintelligent system management possible. Although object storage device has a strongcomputing power which is the core hardware of the object storage system, manymature object-based file systems have not fully utilized their computing power. Cephis one of this kind of systems.Thesis studies adding the function of task migration to Ceph, using methodobject to utilize the object storage device fully. According to the study result, theobject storage device is utilized more fully, network load of the client is eased a littleand the client’s performance is better after adding the function of task migration toCeph. The main work and achievements of the thesis are as follows:(1) Studies the theory and configuration of object-based storage system, analyzesthe possibility of combining object storage and active storage, and determines thedirection of the research, which is that adding the function of task migration to Ceph;(2) Studies the origin and development of Ceph, analyzes the architecture ofCeph, and describes how the Ceph cluster works briefly; (3) Analyzes the source code about reading and writing, including the part ofmessage communication between cluster nodes, the part of object distributionstrategies, the part of maintaining data consistency, and the part of reading andwriting, to clarify the interaction processes of the read and write requests.(4) Proposes a solution which adding the function of task migration to Ceph toutilize object storage device more fully, and describes how to implement the solutionand what issues will be come out.(5) Describes how to implement the function of task migration in Ceph sourcecode and three representative experiments, then summaries the work of this thesis.
