Design And Implementation Of Object-Based Storage Device

With the development of knowledge economy and the spread of information age, driven by network technology ,there are opportunities and challenges in prosperous future of storage industry. Including architecture of data storage system and the interfaces of storage devices, inovations in data storage techonology are needed due to the increasing demand of data application and geometrically augmented data.Object-Based storage, new storage unit, object, is introduced, enhancing the self-management, sharing and accessing capabilities of data. Object based storage architecture rearranges the functions of different components, while adopting the advantages and discard the disadvantages of present network storage system. The intelligence is improved and physical storage management transaction is transfered to storage device. Thus, the direct data transfer between user and storage devices, so the data visit time and efficiency is accelerated and the scalability of system is improved. The object-based storage device is realized by specified OSD Controller on the basis of present processing capability. Realized by loadable module, the data processing process is realized under kernel.The switching speeding during I/O procedure is decreased. The data transfer between object based devices is through iSCSI chanel, MDS and Client, which is in the trend of the low-cost IP storage in network storage techonology. The OSD implement the latest T10 OSD command set, and extend the arrtibute of it. The OSD build the object storage management and access interface based on Ext2 file system. The result shows that the OSD with Object interface has better scalability and much better performance in transferring data.
