With the rapid development of national economy, people became moredependent on the communications industry. Especially, when the third generation andthe fourth generation communication network are covered in large area, generousmobile base stations have been constructed. As an important auxiliary equipment formobile communication, mobile communication towers affect the quality ofcommunication directly in the process of mobile communication networkconstruction. For the sake of increasing the service life of the communication network,it needs to follow strict rules during the design, manufacture, and installation period.However, several factors will influence the safety of the mobile communication basestation, such as crustal movement, artificial construction or weather conditions. Longterm exposure to the natural environment will cause the tower tilted and deformation,even lead to the serious accidents of tower collapsed. Tower collapse occursfrequently in recent years, investigation reports show that such accidents mainly dueto the harsh environments instead of quality problem of towers.The communication tower in remote areas is difficult to maintenance, and thereis no specific scheme for tower maintenance at present. Generally,the maintenancedepends on visual assessment which is limited to the judgment of physical damage,such as apparent tilt, screw loose, nut missing, component rustiness or deformation.Therefore, to develop a system which can detect the tower deformation automaticallyand provide real-time warning is necessary. An intelligent tower deformationdetection warning system is designed in this dissertation. The main contents are asfollows:(1) Testing node for tower deformation is designed and developed. The noveltesting node is with the characteristics of low-power, low cost, high precision andminiaturization by optimizing the design of software and hardware. Two sets ofscheme are proposed to meet the requirements of different regions and conditions.The prevention and shield to the thunder, rain, snow and electromagnetic is realized contemporary.(2) Network of detecting system is designed in detail. The wirelesscommunication protocol is proposed and optimized with the thought of Internet ofThings. In addition, the software and hardware scheme for GSM module is designedand analyzed, which can realize the data communication between testing node andtesting center.(3) Intelligent monitoring software for tower deformation detection is designed.The novel software is with the feature of data reception, presentation, storage andwarning analysis. When the data is received and processed by the monitoringsoftware, the results will be sent back to the users in a graphical form. In addition,warning message will be sent to the users automatically in the case of towerdeformation.The designed mobile communication tower deformation detection system canrun under low power consumption, and it can greatly enhance the equipmentreliability. The cost control and miniaturization design make it possible to bepromoted. The field test during twelve months shows that the system could worknormally under the harsh environment, which can meet the requirements of theproject design.
