In the development of radar systems, in order to evaluate the performance of the radarsignal processor, we often require reliable radar echo simulator. Radar echo simulator is animportant equipment of target and environmental simulation.Based on the DRFM board of FPGA and DSP architecture, this paper implements aconfigurable multi-target, multi-channel, high-precision radar echo simulator systems. Thesimulator can set the distance, speed, direction and other track parameters of the target. Andit can set radar signal parameters, antenna pattern models and so on. The system cancapture the radar transmitter signal, modulate target information, and output analog radarecho signal. The simulator supports continuous and pulsed operation system, and candisplay the current state.This paper gives the overall design of the system, focusing on analysis of the de-chirpsignal and stepped-chirp signal model and the common clutter model. It introduces themodulation method of extended targets and the method of signal parameter estimation. Inaddition, This paper introduces the simulation results of the hardware implementationprocess, to verify the feasibility of the program; then completed echo modulation module,and simulate each module with the software of Modelsim, and finally output echo signaldebugging the dedicated DRFM board. In the end, we save the signal data with a dataacquisition device, analysis the data for closed-loop self-validation. Results show that theradar target echo simulator has fully achieved the desired goals.
