Assembly activity is an important stage of product manufacturing, and ComputerAided Assembly Planning (CAAP) is the basis for automated assembly. And AssemblySequence Planning (ASP) is the core of CAAP in recent research. In recent years,research on ASP is mainly leaning to expert system and soft computing while research ongeometry algorithm for ASP is getting less. However, it does not mean that geometryalgorithm for ASP is no longer important. It is difficult to figure out ASP just byengineering knowledge and without using geometry algorithm.During the process of assemble, assembly direction is one of the most importantfactor that constitute the assembly cost. So the import of the assembly directioninformation is important to ASP. Based on the fundamental of current method and betterassembly model and information, this paper gets some achievements:A hierarchical assembly model is proposed in this paper. The concept of connect unit,which can be classified by the existence of connectors the removability of ConnectComponent, is firstly built. And the classification of connect unit is quite useful for thefollowing identification of connect unit and the algorithm. Then the hierarchical assemblymodel can be built on the unit of connect unit, so that the problems can be divided intosub problems. Different from the original concept of sub assembly(which expresses noconnection between sub assembly, one connect unit can have connection with anotherone anytime.The direction matrix oriented assembly information matrixes provide more assemblyinformation than before. Direction matrix can record all the information of support andinterfere between parts. It can also dig out the influence of changing assembly direction.By the help of direction matrix, just getting a topological order of the parts can be a goodsequence. So it can be said the time complexity of ASP is greatly reduced.At last, a program is created to test the method and the realization of the system isintroduced.
