Surface reconstruction is a technology used in product analysis, manufacturing and innovation. It is realized by obtaining the point cloud data of a fabricated product model according to some measuring equipment and reconstructing the model with relevant software analysis. Nowadays, the technology is widely used in machinery, automobile, aviation, aerospace, medical and other fields, to improve the overall level of reverse engineering. This article investigates the key technique based on Coordinate Measuring Machine technology.Data acquisition is the basis of the surface reconstruction. The techniques of coordinate data acquisition, characteristics and application field of contact and non-contact measurement methods were discussed in this paper. Point cloud data processing is the key technology of surface reconstruction. The technology of registration, data smoothness, data reduction and data segmentation were also discussed.Surface reconstruction is the most important step in this dissertation. This paper expounded the theoretical basis of the NURBS surface reconstruction technology, through the Imageware software. Some examples were given out to carry out data processing, surface rebuilding and prototype from data points.In the process of digital product modeling in reverse engineering technology, more and more attention, this paper enriches the theory and method of the product modeling design, has a certain reference value in practical engineering applications, will promote the application and popularization of reverse engineering in product design.
