With our country’s the continuous development of the infomatization in forestry, our country’s forestry infomatization entered a new development stage from the "Digital Forestry" to "Smarter Forestry". Smarter Forestry is reflection of the information technology’s development in the field of forestry, also, is an inevitable choice for the development of information technology. This paper explores a solution of augmented reality technology used in forestry based on ARM embedded platform. In this paper, the main research on the key technologies of Augmented Reality-based image matching, and realize an ARM-based terminal of enhanced forest information systems.Firstly, the paper introduces background and significance of this subject, then discusses development situation of augmented reality at domestic and abroad, and introduce three kinds of common image recognition algorithms in Augmented Reality-based image recognition. Secondly, according to research status of Augmented Reality technology at the present stage. To solve the problem of low image matching accuracy, large amount of calculation and low robustness of the object on existing Augmented Reality system based on natural features, this paper proposed a new image matching algorithm based on affine-invariant closed region and SURF. First, The input image with histogram equalization for image enhancement to obtain a binary image and extract the closed region in the image as the image of the affine invariant region; Second, used SURF detection algorithm to extract the image of the closed region feature description; Finally, finished the procedure of image matching using bidirectional matching with SURF algorithm. Thirdly, according to the requirements of Augmented Reality, the paper designed and realized enhanced forest information systems. In the system, the computer vision library (OpenCV) is used to achieve Image Matching Algorithm Based on Affine-Invariant Closed Region and SURF and SQLite database is used to store data about forestry. Finally, the system has been running tests. Experiments results indicate that the image matching accuracy largely improved while calculations consumed less time. The proposed method can meet the requirements of augmented reality systems. Enhanced forest information systems can meet the design requirements, and achieved more satisfactory results.
