With develop of the computer science, image processing technology has been widely used in the forestry system except in the bamboo processing. Recently the study of bamboo industry is concentrate in texture and the processing machinery. We can introduce the image processing technique into the bamboo processing, on the other hand it also can combine the automation and the digit control technique in order to realize the automatic processing. This purport of the paper is to utilize the technique to extract the necessary factor, which can change the format that depended on identify by naked eyes. It also can extract and analyze the various data. This method can not only free the labor force, but also reduce the cost and realize the intelligence, technology and digitization. The more objective and accurate data can fill the gap in the national identification of the bamboo. It also can help to develop the technique to reach the high level in the world.The main point of the article is put the image processing technique into the bamboo proce ssing. The main content is to utilize section took by the camera, at the same time it used image smoothness and image intensification to handle. This combine the special factors in the section and refine the algorithm. At the end it can achieve the ideal edge image. Through the edge ima ge, we can extract some important data of the bamboo and examine them by experiment. These data will be the important evidence in the follow automatic processing.The article utilize the technique of the image processing. It include image smoothness, image intensification and picture segmentation. The key point of the paper is the image edge detection, it compare some classic operators such like Roberts, Prewitt, Sobel, Laplacian and C anny. It combine some operators to extract the outline image. We decide to choose the Sobel as the basic operator and refine the number of their master plates. Then we use the ant group to re fine it, at last we can successfully got the clear image of the outline of bamboos section. At the end of the experiment, we used the fast Hough to calculate the internal diameter, external diam eter, thickness, internal perimeter, external perimeter, internal area and external area. Then exa mine these data to proof the validity. These can be the data used for calculate of the raw materi al yield. It discuss the methods if the cross section is oval or destroyed and utilize the extracted data to initial selection. The result of this study can provide the standard reference for the proce ssing such like removing the yellow or removing the blue, which can found the basis data for t he bamboo automatic processing and improving the finished rate.
