In recent years, with the development of embedded network technology and videocompression technology, the network real-time video surveillance which is based onembedded platform has been applied more and more widely at home and abroad. In thispaper, the network surveillance camera system which is based on H264has beenresearched. There are three significant features about the system. At first, based on thesystem, even in the adverse network environment of low bandwidth, the remote client canalso play high quality real-time video image. Moreover, system suitability is very good. Ifthe over-the-horizon infrared cameras could be equipped with the system, investigationcan be carried out over a long distance. Finally, advanced encryption technology has beenintroduced into the system. Video data stream has been encrypted by the technology,which improved the security of the whole system.The DM8148of the Davinci series chips has been adopted as the main processorsystem of the project. The main hardware platform including CCD camera, TVP5158chip,DM8148main processor, LCD screen,1000M Ethernet front-end ports and128GB solidstate SATA hard disk, etc.; The start of the software part focuses on the Bootloader, theLinux kernel and UBIFS file system of the entire migration process; And expounds thecamera video acquisition, LCD local echo, h.264coding, local solid hard disk storage,RTP packets network transmission, client VLC remote real-time video playback and FTPdump network video applications such as function modules.This paper also analyzed the h.264video file internal data structure, presented thetest results of the network real time video monitoring, as well as with a record which hasbeen filmed in the open air with the system that is equipped with over-the-horizoninfrared cameras, dump to the PC via the network, after local playback the video fileeffect of dump VLC player. At the end of the paper the development process of the wholesystem has been summarized, at the same time a prospect has been made for the futuredevelopment of the system.
