At present, traffic accidents of asphalt pavement frequently occur in China. Thisis largely related to the poor road surface slip resistance. According to the regulationsof JTGD50-2006Highway asphalt pavement design specification, Mean TextureDepth of pavement (MTD) is one of the most important indicators to measure surfaceslip resistance, which directly impacts on road surface slip resistance. At this stage,MTD measuring methods in the domestic and overseas either human factors influenceis big or accuracy is not high. Either operation is complex or time is consuming. Eitherequipment is expensive or do not have3D visualization. The Conflict amongoperational simplicity, equipment prices, measurement precision and3D visual aspectcan not reconcile. Therefore, a new method based on laser vision for MTD measuringis proposed in this research.Fusing the existing methods section method and digital image processingmethod, using laser vision measuring technology, MTD measurement method based onlaser vision is comprehensively studied. First of all, the breakthrough point to usinglaser vision measuring MTD is found through theoretical analysis as well as themeasuring principle and measuring system based on laser vision is expounded.Secondly, laser vision3D mathematical model is established based on triangulationmeasurement principle, including the calibration method of unknown parameters in themodel. Thirdly, the general image processing methods is put forward according to therequirements of the measuring technology. Finally, by using the Mean Profile Depth(MPD) estimation, MTD measurement was realized. Also the comparative experimentswith sand patch method were conducted. The results show that the new method is ofsimple operation with moderate price equipment, its measuring results are of higherresolution and accuracy and its measuring data are3D visual, which has high value ofengineering practicability...
