In recent years, the phenomenon of alien biological invasion isserious. It has caused serious damage and huge loss on the domesticecosystem. So the strengthen of quarantine and inspection work is quiteimportant. The current domestic instrument for field detection of larvae is lessand foreign imported instruments are often more expensive. Based on theresearch of portable larvae image acquisition and analysis instrument as thebackground, an embedded larvae image collection and processing system isdesigned and set combined with microscopic optical imaging technology,digital image processing technology, embedded FPGA technology. Thesystem takes Xilinx’s Spartan-6FPGA as the processor. The timing controland data configuration of CMOS image sensor is controlled through the I2Cbus. The image data is converted into RGB image data format from Bayerformat. The DDR2SDRAM memory, which is having high bandwidth dataand high capacity, is able to buffer the real-time data from image sensor. Bythe TFT LCD the real-time image data is displayed finally. Sobel edge featureextraction algorithm is designed by using Verilog HDL language. In order toverify the validity of the algorithm, contrast experiments are carried byadopting the standard steel rule, gage block and larvae. The results show thatthe realized image system has a good imaging quality and runs steadily.
