Leaf area is an important parameter to measure the status of plant growthand impact crop yield, it is directly affected by the photolepsy of crops, therefore, itis very important to be able to measure the size of the leaf area efficiently andaccurately.At present, there are many kinds of traditional methods to measure leafarea, the results from image processing method and planimeter method are accurateand easy to operate, but the cost is high and not easy to carry, therefore, a kind of leafarea meter measurement based on smart phone software is proposed, the method islow to cost and easy to carry, it has high precision, convenient operation, etc,thispaper describes in detail the process of the development and implementation of leafarea meter, the main content of the paper is listed as follews:1. The measurement methods of the common leaf area are discussed, and theadvantages and disadvantages of each method are briefly introduced, and then,On thebasis of collection and analysis of the common leaf area measurement method, imageprocessing and iOS programming technology, a new plant leaf area measurementscheme is proposed and implemented. The scheme realises the function thatmeasures the parameters of the plant leaf based on iPhone. Image processing isimplemented by OpenCV library and image processing algorithms written by myselfin the paper. Image display, data storage, data query are implemented by iOS system.2. A complete set of software testing and error handling is proposed, so that thesoftware is able to run normally and have a good user experience.In this paper,fromthe error of measurement, the difference of leaf shape, the four kinds of measurementresults, a lot of experiments are made, and the results of mathematical analysis ofthese measured data show that this scheme has good stability and repeatability,coefficient of variation is0.5%; the accuracy of the result is higher, the measurementerror of all kinds of blade are within2%, so it can able to meet the requirement ofscientific research and actual measurement.Finally it is pointed out that shortcomings of the design and implementation ofthis paper are existed. In the future,On the basis of the study and a lot of experiments,these deficiencies are perfected unceasingly in order to achieve the requirements of commerce.It is possible to put into market as soon as. To make a contribution for thedevelopment of agricultural automation,the software is achieve.
