A network equipment manufacturer where I took my internship, developed a platform of traditional TDM(Time-Division Multiplexing) and IP(Internet Protocol) data devices (as computers, mobile phones, wired phones and other terminals) access for telecom industry. The platform is supported by the network devices produced by the manufacturer, which means that when the network devices on the platform are sold to the telecom operators, the operators need to manage these devices. In the past, operators can configure and manage devices by entering commands and parameters manually in a simpler network environment with a few network devices and simple functions. However, at present, as the network environment becomes complex, various network devices have been developed with more complex functions, which make manual management no longer viable. Given this situation, the manufacturer developed a system which can support interfaced and centralized management of network devices for telecom operators. Under this background, the paper discusses the design and implementation of network device management system based on SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). The jargon of network devices is network elements, therefore this system is called network elements management system in the paper.Firstly, the origin and background of the subject are described, followed by the system requirements as functional requirements and non-functional requirements are analyzed. With the requirements analysis, this paper describes the design of the overall structure of system, system business processes and database tables. The system employs a dual C/S (Client/Server) architecture, the outer layer of which is network management platform and the inner layer network element platform. The network management platform manages network elements (large chassis), while the network element management platform provides network management platform interface and subordinate network elements (card). The system uses ActiveMQ as messaging middleware communication and TWaver to draw network topology diagram. The template frame is also used to achieve configuration of network element business data. Secondly, this paper describes in details the process design and class design of four modules as network element discovery platform module, network element data configuration module, network element alarm processing module and user permissions verification which is a part that involves my efforts. Thirdly, this paper displays the interface of the system to readers and describes the test of the system. The final part of the paper is a summary of the whole content.At present, the manufacturer’s network devices have been sold overseas, and the network elements management system has also been recognized and praised by overseas merchants!...
