VANET, known as Vehicular ad hoc network, is a non-center, self-organizing andmulti-hop routing wireless network. It is regarded as an important application ofmobile ad hoc network (MANET) in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). As a newwireless communication network, VANET aims to supplying plenty of information ofvehicles on the road to improve the experience and security of driving with the help ofcar to car communication and car to instrument communication.With the development of VANET goes further, the security of VANET becomemore and more important. In VANET a lot of vehicles and few road-side units aremainly the elements of the communication network. Whether vehicles behavecooperative have significant effect of the efficiency and health of the network. Thefacts that there are malicious nodes commit attacks continually or normal nodes behavebadly by accident will lead to the dramatically decrease of the performance of thenetwork around them or the whole network. Researches indicate that there are lots ofpotential attacks in VANET like selfish attack, Sybil-attack, black holes, collusionattack and so on. Moreover, the property that the topology of VANET changes rapidlybrings great challenge to the solution to the security of the network. However, most ofthe existing trust establishment approaches in MANET cannot handle the rapidlychanging environment of VANET appropriately. Recently it is of great significance toestablish a practical trust management taking the properties of VANET into fullconsideration to guarantee the security of the network.In this paper, we propose a node Reputation based Global Trust Establishmentscheme. The scheme introduces a solution to share the trust information in VANETsafely by applying statistical laws, which makes it more efficient and accurate toestablish trust in rapidly changing environment. Moreover, we detect a bad node bydynamic threshold according to real-time reputation status of the network. Analysisshows that RGTEs is more effective in confidence-building, security assurance andadaptability.
