With the rapid development of high-speed railway and constant improvement ofthe ability of railway transportation, the maximum speed of trains has reached morethan300km/h, therefore high speed and heavy haul trains have higher requirement tostability and security of the railway line. In order to ensure better smoothness andstraightness of the operation of the track top and edge sides, rail grinding machineplays more important part in track maintenance.At present, rail grinding profile machine is universal used in each section of allrailway bureaus. This device is still in the manual stage, the grinding scale and angleof which are completely controlled by the staff’s experience and the skilled level,and the stability of which depends on the operators’proficiency. In the process ofgrinding, it is prone to appear some phenomenon such as not enough grinding andexcessive grinding so as to no precise quantitative and subtle control, which lead tounsatisfied grinding quality and low efficiency, bring about great secure risks forhigh-speed train, and seriously affect the safety and economy of the railwaytransportation. Therefore, is is very strong significance to research and design therail grinding profile machine, which has automatic feed and control system.This paper designs a system based on automatic feed and control system ofAVR rail grinding profile machine. Using ATmega128as the main control chip, thissystem drives a direct current machine which has rotating encoder to move thewheels up and down, which can accurately position through the pulse countingproduced by rotating encoder with time/counter. In the operation of this system, thedigital tube displays the displacement of the grinding wheel for real-time monitoringand timely adjustment. This system will realize high precision grinding and havemany advantages, such as strong adaptability, high stability, simple operation, fastspeed of grinding, so as to reduce the operation time of the staff and operating costs,and improve production efficiency.This paper firstly states the rail grinding machine’s background and significance,and the developing status and trend. Secondly according to the requirement of theproject, it lists technical parameters, determines the specific element type and drawsthe schematic diagram with the specific introduction and analysis of each module,function, implementation method and circuit diagram. Thirdly, according to thewhole design of the hardware, it conducts software design to the automatic feed andcontrol system, provides the software design of the grinding, draws and specificallyanalyzes the flow chart of main program and each module. Lastly, though thedebugging and analysis of control systems, this system can realize the normaloperation and meet the design requirements.Based on hardware and software design scheme proposed in this paper, theauthor of this paper has successfully developed the practical application of controlsystem, which runs stably, meets the system requirements, and achieves good results.
