Pulverized coal injection (PCI) has become a major technical measure in the wayof significantly reducing coke and pig iron costs in modern blast furnace (BF).However, there are some problems the low measurement of coal and system complexprocess, which cannot maximize its effectiveness and protect the production process toachieve the ideal state. Some analysis and studies are carried out to solve the aboveproblems.This subject introduced PCI control system for8th BF in a steel ironworks.Firstly, a new method of regulating and coal rate combining of BF condition wasproposed to solve the problem that PCI system was not perfect. This method is that thehot metal temperatures from BF were detected to compensate the amount of gas, so asto regulate coal rate into BF, which achieve the optimum coal rate of BF. Secondly,according to the technical requirements of the transformation, some various parametersof the original system had been recalculated and analyzed. Based on system parameters,various system components were selected, and their transfer functions were alsodetermined. Thereby the system mathematical simulation models were established. Inorder to solve two problems that low accuracy and lag of measurement of coal, aalgorithm of coal measurement based on weighted moving average method wasdesigned. Finally, because the system based on conventional PID controller cannotmeet the requirement of nonlinear and time-varying. fuzzy adaptive PID controllerwere discussed was designed and analyzed by Simulink.Some conclusions are as follows. Firstly, the new method of regulating coal ratebased on BF conditions can improve BF conditions and reach to the optimal coal. Ithas good guiding to further study actual working system. Secondly, in themeasurement session of PCI, after using the weighted moving average method, themeasurement accuracy is improved. Finally, effect of the fuzzy adaptive PID control isbetter than the effect of conventional PID control, and the former is more suitable for PCI system.
