In the recent application development of various electronic systems such as integrated command, radar net and electronic countermeasures, it is urgently required to combine many types of low speed traffics into a high speed data stream for transmission. Multiplexer is just an important equipment to fulfill such a function, whose performance play important role for the performance of the whole communication system.In a microwave or scatter wireless communication system, being as a digital terminal equipment with many types of traffics, a multiplexer should be adaptive to variable parameter channel with high burst error code ratio.This thesis designs the universal multiplexer by means of FPGA. The main jobs and achievements of the thesis are as follows:1) Digital relay signaling reinforcement is designed and realized, where synchronization and regeneration of El frame alignment code can meet the requirements of El signaling to be connected to the public network through scatter communication channel.2) Asynchronous data rate self-adapting unit is designed and realized, which can automatically recognize the data rate and allocate suitable multiplexing bandwidth. The problem of how to high efficiently transmit synchronous data converted from low speed asynchronous data has been solved, which can be applied to emergency communications.3) A lossless handover baseband unit is designed and implemented, which can switch two signals that come from different transmission paths, and can improve the reliability of the communication system.4) A plesiochronous multiplex is designed and implemented, which suit wireless communication with high error rate.5) Serial port extension unit is designed and implemented based on FPGA, which make the multiplexer be able to communicate with several peripheral equipment by serial interfaces.6) A digital cross-connection unit based on El is designed and realized, which can adapt to the requirement in allocation and management for dynamic changing configure of transmission network.The work of this thesis also includes design of all the hardware circuit board, PCB layout, multiplexer debugging and performance testing combined it with several systems. All the functions are sufficiently validated, which indicates the design has the following characters, i.e. good integration, high flexibility in usage, wide adaptability, high reliability. The equipment can be used in vehicle station or fixed station, and can meet the requirements of microwave or scatter communications network. The multiplexer has practical applicable value.
