Design And Implementation Of College Student Course Selecting System Based On B/S Model

With the advent of the information era, information management technology hasbeen widely used in our daily life, even in teaching and educational administration incolleges and universities. Since the implementation of credit system in colleges anduniversities, course selection has become an important part in teaching administration,it is also the essence and foundation of school management. Traditionally, the coursesare selected manually, which is time-consuming, overwhelming, error-prone andinefficient. For students, teachers and teaching administrators, it is very important toselect courses scientifically and reasonably. With course selection as the research basis,and supported by Internet and computer technology, this paper designs a B/S modebased course selection system for college students.This paper uses B/S architecture for course selection system, because thearchitecture enables students to select courses on any terminal (client) with Internetaccess without installing any special software. It applies core functions of the systemto the server, thus it simplifies system development, maintenance and use, andfacilitates management for teaching administrators.However, the main disadvantage isthat the server operates under a heavy load.Based on server-side IIS service and JSPtechnology, B/S mode based course selection system uses SQL Server as datamanagement system to interact with clients. This paper discusses the overall structuraldesign of the system and the division of functional modules, analyzes entities by usingE-R model, establishes relational model of database based on E-R diagram, finishes thedesign of overall database, and creates foundation database for course selection systemin SQL Server2005. Through system analysis, it provides detailed information aboutthe functions and design of four modules in the system: user management, administer,teacher and student.Finally, the course selection system is tested, and it shows good result. Thestudents can use the system to select courses, and teaching administrators can use it torealize the management of students and teachers. B/S mode based course selectionsystem for college students greatly improves the quality of education and teachingmanagement, and provides a firm guarantee for efficiency improvement and reductionof administration costs.
