Fused Deposition Modeling is one of the Rapid Prototyping technologies. With thehelp of the computer to get three-dimensional model slicing data, it can build each layerof the entity according to the slicing data in the actual machining process and thethree-dimensional geometric entities by layers stacking. Due to the technology and3DPrinting Rapid Prototyping have similarities, we also call it3D Printing RapidPrototyping and call its device3D Printer. With the widely applications of3D Printersin the fields of scientific research, medical treatment, teaching and construction, let ussee it has a good prospect and great social value by the research of its relatedtechnologies.Due to the entire manufacturing process following with action of thermal field,involving heat source, heating, heat transfer, heat dissipation, thermal field plays aleading role in the quality of work pieces. The main research contents are as follows:(1) Set up the relevant heat source model in the manufacturing process, includingthe print head and the heating plate. The print head model is set up with Gauss heatsource model in the form of moving heat source. And the heating plate deals with aconstant temperature load to the model as the boundary conditions.(2) Write temperature field simulation program with the help of ANSYS ParametricDesign Language (APDL). Apply the birth and death unit technology to simulatemanufacturing process. And complete the numerical simulation of temperature field ofwork piece.(3) Put the result data of numerical simulation of temperature field on the model as aload to complete the numerical simulation of stress field so that getting stress fielddistribution of the work piece. Finally we get the deformation data of the work piece.(4) Carry on the process test and verify the rationality of the simulation. Finally takemeasures to improve the process as to improve the quality of work piece and expandthe application field of the process.
