In China, large and medium reservoirs are designed to be one of thewater sourcesof living and industrial and agricultural sectors,the quality of which have a direct effecton the safety of the people and the sustainable development of the society. Howerer,theuncontrolled discharge of household sewage and industrial wastewater are makingserious threats to the water of many reservoirs,such as the eutrophication and excessiveheavy metals, etc. Due to slow flow in reservoirs and the weakened ability of thedilution and diffusion in the water,the self-purification capacity of the water is reduced.As a result, the water pollution is very difficult to deal with. Therefore,it is very urgentfor us to monitor the water quality in many important reservoirs in current andcontinuous observation to discover and cope with the water pollution early.Afterwardswe can try our best to avoid the water pollution accidents from happeningagain.Nervertheless,the existing water quality automatic monitoring systems have toomany limitations and can not meet the requirements of automatically monitoring thewater quality in the reservoirs.According to the demands of water quality automatic monitoring in numerousreservoirs, an on-line water quality monitoring system which is composed of micromulti-parameter water quality monitor,wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and amonitoring platform based on embedded systemwas proposed. Meanwhile aninformation management system of water quality was put forward, which is based onAndroid Operating System for the purpose of managing and analyzing the mass data ofthe water quality and considering other special requirements.The system employed anew type of water quality assessment and early warning model and had the aid ofAchartEngine charting to output the evalution results and the early warning messages.Inaddtion,it also successfully solved the multi-thread synchronization of Sqliteaccess.Experimental results showed that the system could receive the water qualitymonitoring data validly and parse them.What is more,it could timely detect theabnormal signals of water quality and give an alarm,achieving a better real-timeinteraction between people and computers and efficiently satisfying the various kinds ofessential requirements of on-line water-quality-automatic monitoring for a reservior.The main works of this paper is as follows:①Review the achievements and development trends of water quality on-line monitoring at home and abroad;Demonstrate the feasibility and significance to onlinemonitor the real-time water quality inthe reservoirs.②Plan the overall architecture of the water quality on-line automatic monitoringsystem for a reservoir;And using the developed micro multi-parameters water quality testinginstrument as the water quality sampling unit, design a water quality monitoring WSNsbased on6LoWPAN protocol.③Describe the main hardware circuit of the embedded water quality monitoringplatform; Set forth the building of its software platform from selecting an embeddedoperating system, the customization and migration of Android system, and many otheraspects.④Set up the concept model, the object-oriented model and the hierarchy model ofthe reservoir water quality monitoring information management system; Besides designa data transfer protocol for the system.⑤Establish water quality evaluation models from multiple angles to assessmentthe current water quality of one node and the whole reservoirs and the history overallwater quality respectively; In addition according to the regular pattern of water qualitychange in the reservoirs, build a novel early-warning model combining the statewarning method and trends warning method.⑥Implement the information management system’s key modules, and test it byintegration, then remove some bugs.
