The emergence of cognitive radio provides an effective solution to the growingcontradiction between the demand and the increasing scarcity of wireless communicationradio spectrum resources. Recent years, cognitive radio has become one of the hottest areasof research. Cognitive radio spectrum sensing is the most critical technology and theprerequisite for achieving cognitive radio. Now, most of researches on spectrum sensing arefocused on spectrum sensing algorithm and fewer studies on spectrum sensing hardwareplatform. There is no an effective way to build cognitive radio systems until now. Hardwareplatform becomes a bottleneck restricting the performance of cognitive radio.Based on the characteristics of typical spectrum sensing algorithms, we compared avariety of hardware platforms from flexibility, performance and power consumption, suchas ASIC、FPGA、ASIP and GPP. Eventually, we propose a hardware platform of strongversatility and applicability, which is based on FPGA platform. In order to achieve therequirements of high versatility, the core part of the platform uses a64K-point FFTtransform module. It can do a wide band signal conversion so that the collected data can beapplied to various spectrum sensing algorithms. Meanwhile, we adopt a high-bandwidthPCI Express interface as a data transmission section. It can reduce latency to communicatewith other modules. With the FPGA verification platform, this project has verified thewhole system. The verification results show that the speed and accuracy can meet thedesign requirements.This thesis firstly gives an introduction of the background of cognitive radio, andsummarizes the current research status. Then, it analysis the spectrum algorithms and hardplatforms, and propose new scheme. After this, the whole debug system and eachsubmodule will be introduced in detail. Finally, this thesis will elaborate on the verificationprocess for the whole design and the main work is summarized and prospected.In this thesis, the work includes:1. Proposed a hardware platform of cognitive radio with strong versatility andapplicability. 2. Design and implemented the whole design.3. Design and implemented the PC software for communication with FPGA platform.4. Completed the verification of the whole system based on FPGA platform.
