The swift development of modern industrial technology has give impetus to the reform andinnovation of traditional medical industry. It is the inevitable trend of social development toapplying industrial automation machinery to the field of medical logistics. The automatedpharmacy which is known as intelligent pharmacy is exactly the representative of this trend.Theuse of automated pharmacy can optimize supply and marketing channels of medicine, avoidsorting errors of medicine and reduce the time of stock and distribution of medicine. It hasimportant significance for raising the overall service level of hospitals and commodity circulationspeed of drugstores.Although automated pharmacy has been widely accepted as an initiative in new age, itspromoting process is much tougher. One of the main reasons is that it has some limitation infunction. This limitation is caused by the structure of manipulator and its integral working progress. Therefore, this paper is to design new structure of manipulator and related facilities so as tooptimizing the working progress to enhance its cost performance ratio in the end. The mainresearch contents as follows:Firstly, the working progress of existing automated pharmacy and structure of manipulator areanalyzed. New manipulator structure type is put forward after pointing out its shortcomings.Secondly, elevating device and mobile device of manipulator are designed without changing thespatial distribution of automated pharmacy. Properties of elevating device are researched. Thirdly,end-effectors and manipulator which can adapt the fetching requirements of most medicine aredesigned without changing the location methods of medicine. Finally, kinematical analysis ofmanipulator is done to lay the foundation for its control.
