With the advances in wireless communication and computing devices,Wireless Sensor node has come into the spotlight by the capacity of perception, processing and transmission. A Wireless Sensor Network consists of a number of wireless sensor nodes, which have the advantages of low power consumption, low cost, distributed protection and self-organization. Thus, Wireless Sensor Networks were mainly used for environmental and medical monitoring, military surveillance, intelligent transportation etc. At the same time, WSN nodes usually work in an un-trusted environment. In such a situation, these characteristics of WSN make it vulnerable to lots of security problems and complicate the development of security mechanisms as well. For fulfilling the basic security requirements of WSN, the defensive measure discussed in this paper is information encryption technology. Considering memory cost and efficiency, the contribution of this paper is to propose two novel lightweight block ciphers suitable for the WSN based on the chaos theory. The structure of the ciphers is a variant of Feistel network, but the methods of confusion and diffusion are different. Based on memory cost, the first algorithm adopts a mix design of the linear congruence generators and the dynamic discretized compound chaotic system. Making full use of the major cycle characteristics and weak correlation for the mixed chaotic system, we proposed a novel block cipher with dynamic mixed chaotic system using the method of generating the round subkeys and F function. Based on efficiency, the second algorithm proofs the characteristics of some chaotic mapping and proposes new S-Box approaches based chaotic mapping. We propose the other method of generating the round subkeys and F function using the S-Box as the nonlinear parts. We proposed a novel block cipher with chaotic S-box by them. The former saves the storage greatly by using the discretized mixed chaotic system instead of S-box. The latter enhances the efficiency greatly by using a novel S-box.Lastly, we can choose the two algorithms for the WSN application environment. The speed, the statistic and avalanche analysis, information entropy analysis, confusion and diffusion analysis, show that the two algorithms work safely. These two block ciphers can be applied to encrypyion in wireless sensor networks. Comparing these performances, we can see that the proposed encryption algorithms all have high security, high efficiency and lower resource consumption suitable for the test platform of the emulator is the CC2430.
