As a new research field, wireless sensor networks have been focused on bymore and more people from industry and academia. It is widely used in the field ofmilitary, medical care, traffic management and intelligent home etc, and its securityproblems have been appeared gradually. Traditional encryption schemes are notsuitable for wireless sensor networks due to intrinsic features of the sensor nodessuch as low energy, limited computation capability and short communicationdistance. There is need to study new security technology to adapt to theenvironment of the wireless sensor networks.In this paper, we focus on the encryption scheme based on theory of chaos forwireless sensor networks. There are various security threats in Wireless sensornetwork during the data transmission. Data encryption algorithm, considered as thebase of network security, has an important influence on network security.Traditional encryption schemes are not suitable for wireless sensor networks due tointrinsic features of the sensor nodes. Chaos cryptology has gained manyachievements in recent years, and it provides a new method for encryptionalgorithm of wireless sensor network. We present two kinds of encryption algorithmfor wireless sensor networks based on chaos.The S-box, as the core component block cipher, determines the security ofencryption algorithm. In this paper, we make full use of characteristics of chaoticmaps, and puts forward a method to generate S-box based on double chaos. S-boxgenerated by this method has good cipher quality. We design a chaotic encryptionalgorithm based on the S-box, and the S-box is applied to the encryption function ofFeistel. And it shows that the algorithm is safe and fast, and it can be used in sensornetworks.In order to save the resources and get the higher security, we have alsodesigned a block encryption algorithm based on discretized chaotic map. It uses thecompound chaotic sequence encryption key which expands the key space, and thealgorithm encryption function is formed by discretized chaotic map. Through thetests of the safety and performance, the results show that the algorithm has lowresource consumption, high security and speed, so it is suitable for wireless sensornetworks.
