In practical applications, transmitter or receiver module failure of large arraycan occur at any time. Failure array elements can destroy array geometriccharacteristics and distort beam pattern sidelobe, resulting in deteriorating arrayperformance of parameter estimation. For better design of array system parameters,the analysis of influence of array element failure on beam pattern is essential.Considering the inconvenience of replacing faulty elements, array failurecompensation algorithm is studied, which takes advantage of the received data offunctioning elements to achieve desired array performance. This thesis is organizedas follows:As a base of following study, array signal model is provided at first. Arrayfailure model, array phase and amplitude error model and the principle of arraybeam pattern are given. Theoretical analysis of statistical value of beam pattern isproposed, including mainlobe width, sidelobe level, pattern gain and patterndirection. Simulation experiments of monopulse estimation algorithm in case offaulty elements are presented. Two kind of array failure compensation algorithm areintroduced. The performance of a beamspace based compensation algorithm insingle snapshot situation is improved by increasing estimation accuracy ofcovariance matrix. Finally the effect of faulty elements on calibration algorithm forarray amplitude and phase error is analyzed and improved method is given.Experiments results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the method.
