The big progress in quantum computer research, has brought up a serious chanllenge tothe security of the traditional public key cryptosystem, which is built on integer factorizationand discrete logarithm problem. However, these problems are not NP-hard problems for thequantum computer.Proposing a new public key cryptosystem which can withstand the attackin the future is an important topic of contemporary cryptology research.Many portable devices,such as smart cards, wireless sensors, RFID devices are widelyused today. Limited computing power, storage space, power consumption are the key featuresof these devices.A reliable internet of things can not be built up without the protection ofcryptosystem. The traditional public key cryptosystem, for example, RSA, requires a largeamount of computations and relatively high power consumption, or big memery forstorage.Obviously, it is not suitable in this situation.Multivariate public key cryptosystem (MPKC) is a good optional public keycryptography, which can resist the quantum algorithm attack. Because its security is built onsolving nonlinear multivariable equations on a finite field, which is proved as an NP-hardproblem. and there won’t be any advantege for solving this problem with quantum computersso far. What’s more, MPKC needs smaller amount of computations and runs quite fast,whichmakes MPKC a good security solution for the low-resource portable devices.This paper introduces a hardware implementation of a typical signature schema ofMPKC—Unbalanced Oil and Vinegar (UOV) signature schema. We designed a specificprocessor for MPKC and the UOV signature algorithm is stored in the instruction memory ofthe processor as the machine code. We aimed to get a low resource and Low powerconsumption design.Our processor can also be the hardware platform for other MPKCalgorithm.
