Widespread of the internet has promoted the development of networkcommunications equipment. As a key equipment of communications network, router’sreliability and scalability have an important effect on the communication network.Modular router is particularly suitable for the complex communications networkenvironment nowadays because its modular design is highly scalability and reliability.Feature module has an important effect on the performance of the modular router as it isa key component of the modular router. Therefore, to study the initialization and hotplug technology of feature modular is of great significance for improving the reliabilityof router.In this thesis, the router’s feature module initialization and hot plug technologywere studied, a new router feature module initialization method was proposed byanalyzing the deficiencies of the existing feature module initialization process accordingto a one-year internship experience in a well-known network equipment company.Meanwhile the process of feature module’s hot plug was analyzed and the initializationand hot plug function of feature module were implemented. The main work of thisthesis is as follows:①Analyzed the initialization and hot plug process of feature module and the keypoints of requirements by studying related hardware and software technology.②Identified deficiencies of existing feature module scheme and designed a newscheme to improve the initialization scheme by hardware and software. The resultsshowed that the scheme designed in this thesis can significantly improve the boot speedof router.③Designed and implemented the hot plug function of feature module bycombining with initialization scheme and application scenarios.④An appropriate power management scheme were designed to manage thepower of router by analyzing the effect of feature module’s initialization and hot plug.The scheme of this thesis can ensure the stability of power in the process of featuremodule’s initialization and hot plug. And also the stability and reliability of router canbe improved by the scheme.⑤The main function of initialization and hot plug were tested finally.The test result showed that the scheme designed and implemented in this thesis canrelease CPU resources and speed up the boot of router. The scheme also supports powermanagement and can effectively improve the reliability of router.
