High frenquency ground wave over-the-horizon radar, which is a significantbranch of radar system research, plays more and more important role in mordenmarginal sea defense and oceanography for its numerous qualities. All of England,America, Russia and China have achieved quite much in this subject. At present, themain direction of China’s ground wave over-the-horizon radar research is changingfrom land-based systems to ship-based systems. In this dissertation we mainly makeefforts in several aspects below, which are about how to produce a ground wave radarsignal generator to assess the electromagnetic environment of the basing ship.In order to meet the requirements of this issue, we analyse the result of weightedradar signals. We not only analyse the LFM signal form, but also elaborate the theory ofpseudo-random sequence weighted signals. We futher compare the results of somecertain weighted radar signals of different parameters.Design hardware of this radar signal generator. In order to control the hardwaremore conveniently, we use qt-creator to design software on PC to transmit radar sampledata. We elaborate the overall proposal of this radar sample transmitting software, andwe also introduce the design flow, especially the connection and the communicationbetween hardware and PC. We introduce the way to choose the components and todesign the PCB. We further elaborate the overall plan of the inside software of thissignal generator, which is achieved by the NiosII. All plans of the system, EPCS, timer,JTAG UART and the CFI are given clear introduction. We also discuss some coreproblems. We test both the software and the hardware of this signal generator. We elaboratethe preparation and the steps of the experiment, the result of which shows that the entireplan of this radar signal generator is very effective to meet the requirements of this issue.
