In the traditional management of university computer lab, there has been existingabundant challenges such as the fast updating of scalable software system, the frequent use ofthe machine, the increasing failure rates of the equipments and the growing frequency of virusinvasion. Fortunately, desktop virtualization technology could be adopted in solving theproblems systematically and effectively. However, the applied research into universitydesktop virtualization is still in its infancy, the existing implementation has just been focusedon business desktop virtualization construction, which is costly for university adoption; inaddition, the huge number of college computer-lab desktops, and the frequent switches, andrelated courses, make the carrying out of reasonable allocation of desktop virtualization in asimple and fast way in university even more urgent.Aiming at solving the problems concerning construction cost, complex desktopallocation and the need for simpler management in the propulsion of desktop visualization inuniversities, this paper puts forward a complete solution in management system of computerlab based on open-source desktop virtualization technology. To begin with, the research statusof traditional management system of computer lab and desktop visualization has beenintroduced. Then, this paper has investigated the key technology of desktop visualization,including the system framework of the open-source desktop virtualization components suchas QEMU-KVM, SPICE and Libvirt, and the integration of these components in therealization of the open-source desktop virtualization. Then, on the basis of the open-sourcedesktop virtualization solution, we have made a detailed analysis of the virtual roommanagement system, specifically including the characteristics of our users, the characteristicsof college computer-lab desktop system, the security requirements, the traditional virtualdesktop management, system interface requirements and so on. After the detailed analysis, thesystem architecture, data model and function module have also been designed. Besides, acurriculum-based desktop distribution model has been used to address the specific problemsconcerning college desktop distribution management. Finally, some results of the system havebeen revealed.This paper has both theoretical and practical significance in the research into theopen-source desktop virtualization such as QEMU-KVM, SPICE, and Libvirt. On the other hand, it has important economic value in reducing the cost of desktop virtualizationimplementation. Besides, it also possesses reference value for the application of virtual roommanagement system, and the curriculum-based model has important theoretical research value,too.
