Study On The Features Of The "Stories"(2004-2010)

Analysis on periodicals has become one of the hot topics of the press since1990s. Therewere lots of thesis and works about magazines and periodicals at that time, but there were fewliterature periodicals about popular stories. It is the same with researches about this kind ofperiodicals. However, there is a literature periodical about popular stories worthy ofattention—Stories, published by Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House.The Stories is one of the historied periodicals in China, which started publication in1963. Nowadays, the Stories has its own conception of editing and steady operation stylethrough nearly half a century’s development. This magazine has obvious characteristics in thecontents, cover design and targeted readers, etc. The magazine also has extensive influenceon similar periodicals, and it is vey popular among the readers. This little magazine has mademany miracles in the press field with its surprisingly large amount of distribution.This paper makes a research on the Stories from the year2004to2010. Firstly, thispaper introduces the development history of this magazine, and then analyzes itscharacteristics of contents and form. It is found that this magazine’s content is consistent withthe topics, and its form is very popular. Combined with its readers’ features and practices inthe new media field, this paper sums up reasons for the Stories’ success and its successfulexperience. Finally, this paper points out the development tendency for the traditional storyperiodicals—active cooperation with the new media.
