The new curriculum standard of geography advocates that students take part in studying positively, be diligently to explore and work hard. At the same time, paying attention to cultivating students’ problem analyzing and solving, as well as to cooperative and communication ability. Integrate these practical activity into geography teaching is a necessary stag in the development of students’ explore consciousness and practical ability, and is also response to change the learning way concrete reflection of the new curriculum standard. However, the implement of practical activities have been limited by other kinds of conditions for a long time, and the effect of implementation is poor. Under this situation, this paper investigate the implementation of geography practical activities in Urumqi through the method of literature analysis, sampling survey, expert consultation, and then summarize impact factors of the practical activity in middle school.Survey shows that students are enthusiastic in practical activities, however, they are not used with high frequency due to teachers insufficient understanding of practical activity. In-class activities, practice goal is not clear that make activities become a form, and the result of implementation is not well. There are some constraints obstruct the implementation of extracurricular activities, most of teachers lack of practical abilities, these factors restricted develop smoothly; The design of practical activities is simple and with a single form, so students have not much involvement in activities.Finally, according to the problems that exist in classroom and extracurricular activities, putting forward the promotion strategy respectively. Classroom practical strategies as following: For teachers, a profound understanding of the new curriculum concept is really required, as well as enhance their practice concept; Design and use the case that combined closely with students’ life; Be good at draw support from multimedia; Guide students to establish proper attitude toward study, actively integrate the practical activities. Extracurricular practical strategies including: Develop diverse forms of extracurricular practice; attach great importance to teachers’ practical skills, develop relevant training; Students should increase their knowledge, and improve the ability of extracurricular activities.
